Scientists at Queen’s University Belfast have discovered that an anti-cancer drug could be used to treat a major cause of blindness in older people.
The NICRN Coordinating Centre would like to congratulate Professor Usha Chakravarthy on her recent publication on the ‘Alternative treatments to inhibit VEGF in age-related choroidal neovascularisation: 2-year findings of the IVAN randomised controlled trial’ in the Lancet. The main finding was that a cheap anti cancer drug was confirmed as equally efficacious in treating wet AMD when compared to an expensive alternative.
NICRN is proud to have supported the delivery of this clinical trial which was sponsored by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.
