- What is clinical research?
Clinical research aims to find out the causes of human illness and how it can be treated or prevented. This type of research is based on examining and observing people with different conditions and sometimes comparing them with healthy people. It can also involve research on samples of blood or other tissues, or tests such as scans or X-rays. Clinical researchers will also sometimes analyse the information in patient records, or the data from health and lifestyle surveys.
- How can I get my study on the NICRN portfolio?
If you contact the Co-ordinating Centre and you will be asked to complete a form. The information will be forwarded to the relevant group who will consider the study at their meeting. The study will be assessed against the criteria described in Areas of Interest.
- Will the NICRN fund my study?
The NICRN does not fund studies and full costing must be obtained from public or commercial sources.
- What is the benefit of my study being part of the Network?
If your study is included on the NICRN Portfolio it may be eligible for additional support by way of staff and links to other Northern Ireland sites to achieve accrual. Access to courses provided by the UKCRN these range from generic to topic specific courses.
- My grant application form asks how I will involve the Network, how can you help?
Provide the Co-ordinating centre with further information and the study will be considered by the NICRN An initial endorsement may be provided.
